Humana Walmart Prescription Rx Plan – Part D

Humana Walmart Prescription Rx Plan – Part D

Humana and Walmart have teamed up to offer seniors a Humana Walmart-Preferred Rx Plan (PDP) with the lowest premium for a Medicare Part-D prescription drug card in the country.  The premium is only $18.50 a month.  Humana and Walmart can provide momentous savings on your prescription medicine costs.  This plan is available to most Medicare beneficiaries, including seniors and people with disabilities.  Humana is a stand-alone prescription drug plan with a Medicare contract. Other pharmacies are available in network.

“One of the primary goals of health care reform is to make health coverage more affordable – and that’s what we’re doing with the introduction of this low-cost Medicare Part D plan,” said William Fleming, PharmD, vice president of Humana Pharmacy Solutions. “People are more likely to take the medications prescribed for them when they can afford those medications. And adhering to prescription-drug regimens can enable people to be healthier and prevent future illness. At Humana, we believe that this prevention helps people live healthier lives and achieve lifelong well-being.”

This drug card makes a GREAT addition to an affordable Medicare Supplemental Insurance Policy.  Remember if you already have a Medicare Advantage plan, then it will probably already have your Part-D benefits included!

This drug plan covers more than 1500 generic drugs, it was designed with you -the senior in mind, to save you money. You will pay the lowest out-of-pocket when you fill your medications at a Walmart or Sam’s Club store.

There is a $320 Annual deductible for all drug tiers.

  • Tier 1 preferred generic medications are only one dollar co-pay for thirty-day supply at Walmart or Sam’s Club. Incredible as it may seem, if you use their preferred mail order provider “RightSourceRX”, your co-pay is “0″ for a 30 or 90 day order for Tier 1 & 2 generics.
  • Tier 2 is only $5 at the Preferred Retail Pharmacies, and $0 copay for mail order.
  • Tier 3 is 20% Coinsurance -Retail or Mail Order.
  • Tier 4 is 35% Coinsurance-Retail or Mail Order.

  1. I have just signed up with the HumanaWalmart Prescription Plan. I presently use Right Source for my prescriptions, through Humana Advantage; I will be dropping the Advantage plan and going to another Supplemental plan, and would like to continue with Right Source when I start the new Prescription plan on Jan. 1. How and when do I get to make that choice? Thanks in advance for your response.

    • Hello Norine,
With so many options it can be hard to know which plan is right for you. To join, switch, or drop a new Medicare Advantage Plan. If you are looking at Supplemental plans (Medigap) and currently have a Medicare Advantage Plan, you can apply for a Medigap policy, but make sure you can leave the Medicare Advantage Plan before your Medigap policy begins. If you are still confused I suggest contacting your Minnesota State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). They provide one-on-one counseling completely free. • You do not have to sign up each year but YOU MUST DO THE PROPER RESEARCH EACH YEAR AS PLANS AND THE FORMULARY CHANGES FROM YEAR TO YEAR.
I do research for many clients during the AEP and find about 80% need to change plans or companies.

  3. Tier 3 drug: can you explain what the co-insurance amounts mean? What will be my cost if I take a med that is a tier 3?
    Thanks

    • You pay coinsurance plus any deductibles you owe. For example, if the health insurance or plan’s allowed amount for an office visit is $100 and you’ve met your deductible, your coinsurance payment of 20% for a preferred pharmacy would be $20. The health insurance or plan pays the rest of the allowed amount.

  5. I would not recommend this plan. They do not pay for drugs you receive in the hospital.

  11. One of the Drugs I am taking is the Spiriva Handihaler. Does Humana offer any help with the cost of this drug. Last week I paid $235.00 at Walgreens for this prescription. Along with the other drugs I am taking, I in no way can afford this. I will have to do without.
    thank you,

  12. The shingles vaccine – according the Obama Care – is covered under “preventive medicine”. It’s like a flu shot or a pneumonia shot. It’s a shot that PREVENTS you from getting it. Because it prevents illnesses, thus keeping costs down for the admittance to a hospital or having to go to the doctor for an office visit AND meds, this is free. Show your Medicare card and health/prescription card. Make certain you tell the place that you’re going to to get the shot that this should not be an out-of-pocket charge due to the fact that it falls under “preventive maintenance/medicine” for health. I paid absolutely nothing for my flu and shingles shot.

    • Does not cover the 10 year PREVENTATIVE Tetnus/diptheria shot.
Humana said I did not meet my $320 deductible. I had it at the Dr. office, not knowing that suddenly preventative shots are suddenly considered a drug. And no one in Humana customer service could tell me why it was not paid for. happened to 2 other people that I know of who have this plan and big deductibles. I scanned the Medicare book and the Humana plan. Nothing in Medicare book about the fact that & I quote “anything injectable is considered a drug.” Nothing in the table of contents of the Humana plan: found one little blurb about how some shots are now drugs on page 75. This info was very vague and almost invisible. A drug is to treat an ailment, a drug is not a preventative measure. When I asked for a book outlining what drugs are covered I got NOTHING. So I guess any preventative is just a crap shoot as to whether you pay or not. And who the heck would know that suddenly you can not get a shot in your Drs. office. What kind of devious nonsense is this? Saving a lot of $ for Humana I would say. I do believe this is true for all Plan D programs..
